Nakia is a contestant from Season 1 of The Voice. He was twenty-seventh singer to be seen on the Blind Auditions and sang "Forget You" by Cee Lo Green. Both Cee Lo and Blake pressed their buttons but Nakia chose to join Cee Lo's team.

Cee Lo then chose during the Battle Rounds to pair up Nakia with Tje Austin and gave them the song "Closer" by Ne-Yo. At the end of their performance Cee Lo chose Nakia to take through to the Quarterfinals and Tje was eliminated from the competition.

During the Quarterfinals, Nakia sang "Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leon and was 5th to sing during the live show. Nakia also sang with the rest of his team and their coach Cee Lo Green to "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone. Nakia was saved by Cee Lo and moved on to the Semi-finals.

At the Semi-finals, Nakia sang "Whataya Want From Me" by Adam Lambert and was 2nd to sing during the live show. The final four were announced based on a mix of public's vote and voting of their coaches. Both carried equal weight of 100 points for a total of 200 points. Nakia received 51 from Cee Lo and 25 from the public eliminating him from the competition and leaving Vicci Martinez to advance to the Finals. In the results show the final 8 all performed together to a "Faith/Freedom '90" medley by George Michael.
